JoolZ and I just got home from Savannah and what a trip it was. Photographically, I feel as though I didn't even scratch the surface of this great city. From a city planning perspective, this city is at opposite ends of the spectrum from anything that I've seen in Texas. Each block is carefully planned out with park squares every few blocks. The tall trees with hanging branches do not create an idea lighting situation for photography with extreme light and shadow areas, but nevertheless it is an attractive area of the city to walk around.
I did manage to find some trouble when there though... December 23, 2010 - Well I found it today, and shortly after I started shooting, within 40 seconds, I had Savannah Police with their lights flashing speeding their way right toward me. I turned away to head back to my car when they came to a streaching halt right next to me in the middle of the road. They wanted to know why I was taking pictures of the port. I answered them with as little information as possible, that I liked to take pictures of industrial areas. They said okay, and I was on my way. Very exciting moment. I shook their hand and wished them a happy holiday. December 25, 2010: This morning I went out from my hotel to do a little shooting. About 15 minutes into my walking around the historic area, I see police cars blocking off some streets. I should run the other direction, right? No... instead, with camera in hand, I go to danger as fast as my feet will take me. Asked a cop what was going on, told me to get off the street; went around the block; Fire truck blocking the street. I hear a gun shot. OK, this is getting interesting. After a few more minutes I see some cops calling it off. Turns out, it was a bomb threat. I go up to cops in bomb outfits, like the one's you saw in Hurt Locker? Asked them if they found anything. Didn't want to ask too many questions... maybe they would think I was involved? Now I know why my wife, Joolz doesn't want to shoot with me anymore.
