It was so great to see all of the slideshows tonight, but more important it was great to meet so many great people. More than anything else tonight's SlideLuck PotShow was about building community.
Here's a peak at the slide show I put together.
No one gives better hugs than Milli. Thanks for all of your support! And of course my wife, Julie, and son Caleb... thanks for putting up with all of my excitement over this!
_For some reason I think I should be too cool for this, but I've never really been recognized for my photography before. Sure, I've had the occasional solo exhibit here and there; been part of group shows. All of that has been great. Seriously, more than I ever expected since picking up the camera again seven years ago.
So what's this all about? Well my slideshow was selected to be part of the SlideLuck PotShow (SLPS) Austin IV. I can hear you now saying, "SlideLuck PotShow?" I said the same thing the first time I heard Lance Rosenfield mention it at an Austin Center of Photography "Icons of Photography" event. Thought I'd never have anything to submit, but I'll go and see what others have to show.
SLPS is a community event where photographers and artists come together, submit their work for selection, and have a potluck. I am so thrilled to have been selected for the slideshow this year.
Got to admit, I've "googled" all the other photographers/artists that were selected, and can say that I hope I don't suck. Some really great artists in the bunch. I also know some that didn't get selected and can tell you, there was some steep competition. Sixteen other photographers were selected this year and I can't wait to see what their slideshows are going to be. From what I can tell from their websites, I'm feeling even more lucky.
(I know something is going on... think they've been GOOGLING me too since the hits on my website tonight have skyrocketed)
Here are the other photographers selected (in no particular order)
I know a lot of my friends on flickr and facebook will say, "I'm not surprised," or "About time," or "Braggart!" I am seriously over the moon about this and I hope that you can share in my happiness. If you are in Austin Saturday night, I hope you can stop by? Here's the link for
